Following a high-level board meeting, Laporta confirmed the date while speaking to club media, as he said:

“In a board meeting, we have agreed that we will hold presidential elections on March 15th.”

It meant that the board will be calling elections on the earliest date allowed by the club’s statutes, which specify the process to take place between March and June 15.

Further elaborating on why this date was chosen for the elections, Laporta added:

“We believe that for the functioning of the club, both at an institutional level and especially at a sporting level, this is the most appropriate date, and we are sure that these will be exemplary elections with high participation.”

In the coming days, and according to the deadlines established by the statutes, the call for elections will be published, which will include the schedule and all the details of the electoral process.

Laporta, who returned as president in 2021, will be going up against former backer Marc Ciria, along with Xavi Vilajoana, as well as Victor Font in the elections.

While there have been a few concerns about his tenure, Laporta remains the frontrunner to return for another term as the president of FC Barcelona.
