Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the club is ready to reopen the Spotify Camp Nou.
After several delays, the 63-year-old says the Spotify Camp Nou is fully prepared to host matches again, having secured all the necessary safety and technical certificates.
Returning from Paris after attending the Ballon d’Or gala, Laporta revealed that the club is now waiting for the Barcelona City Council to issue the final occupancy permit that will allow fans to return.
When asked about the situation of the stadium, Laporta insisted that the club had met every demand, with La Liga and UEFA already giving their approval.
“We have followed the regulations, and the relevant certificates have been submitted,” he said (via SPORT).
“The fire department, the Dekra certificate, all of them. The corrections that have been requested of us – The Camp Nou is ready to play. La Liga and UEFA have said so.”
While stressing that he did not want to put pressure on the local authorities, Laporta made it clear that the next move is out of the club’s hands.
“I don’t want to put pressure on the City Council, but they have the ball in their court,” he said.
“The sooner they give us the first occupancy, the sooner we can go. Remember that there are three phases to return to the field.
“The first is already ready. Not only the builder says so, all parties have told us. All that’s left is the City Council.”
The club arranged a media tour of the renovated stadium on Tuesday to show that everything is ready.
Barca have scheduled a technical meeting with the City Council. After that, Barcelona’s First Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet will announce the municipal position on granting the permit.
While that’s being sorted, Laporta has confirmed that the team may still have to play their home games at Montjuic or the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
The Blaugranas are hoping that the issues will be sorted before their Champions League home clash against Paris Saint-Germain on October 1.
