SV Werder Bremen took home all three points from Stuttgart after a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. A brace from Oliver Burke secured the victory, as well as being the Green-Whites’ third straight win on their travels. Following the game, head coach Ole Werner and his players were visibly pleased with the result. Read on for all the post-match reaction.
Ole Werner, head coach: “We wanted to find ways in behind their defence and get the ball up the pitch to Oliver Burke. That helped us to create some good chances at the start. VfB had chances of their own and the red card definitely benefited us. It’s a great result for us and I have only good things to say about my team’s performance. We’ve managed to equal our tally of 42 points at this stage from last season and now want to add more points to it.”
Marco Friedl, captain: “That was a great performance away against a top team. We started well and managed to create good chances for ourselves in the first half. The second half then also saw us able to generate good opportunities on goal, which is why is wasn’t an undeserved win. Despite finding ourselves a man up, we made things tough for ourselves at times. Stuttgart did well at the back which meant that our centre-backs had a bit more time and space, so it definitely benefited us. I’m very happy that we managed to score the winner at the end.”
Leonardo Bittencourt: “Late wins are always great. The second yellow [for Stuttgart] might have been bit harsh, but it definitely played into our hands. Stuttgart had a lot of the ball, but we also managed to create good moments for ourselves and I think overall it was a deserved win. After going through a bit of a slump, we have since managed to win each of our last three games, which is something we want to build on.”

Oliver Burke, match-winner: “I’m very proud of our performance and of the whole team. It was a very important win, which will give us even more confidence. It wasn’t an easy game, even after Stuttgart had a man sent off — they have a strong team and were defending deep. We managed to score late on and win the game.”
