New claims in Brazil have dismissed support speculation surrounding an ambitious swoop for Manchester City’s Ederson during the final week of the transfer window.

While the goalkeeper’s future has been one of the most prominent talking points in City’s summer, the noise surrounding his next move has come from all corners of the footballing world.

From Saudi Arabian sides circling for a marquee deal last year, to seemingly ongoing negotiations with Turkish champions Galatasaray, and now supposed interest from South America, Ederson’s name has rarely been absent from the headlines in recent weeks.

The Brazilian international, who has spent eight seasons at the Etihad Stadium, remains under contract until the summer of 2026. Yet uncertainty persists around whether he will be part of Pep Guardiola’s plans heading deeper into the new and now-ongoing campaign.

With City already assessing possible replacements -most notably PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma – the potential for an exit this summer cannot be ruled out despite the club’s preference of retaining the player’s services.

It was only last month that reports emerged of Galatasaray exploring a package deal for Ederson, alongside İlkay Gündoğan and Manuel Akanji, highlighting just how wide-ranging the conversations around the 32-year-old’s future have become.

Now, according to the information of journalist Jorge Nicola – as translated and relayed by Sport Witness – there is “no chance” of Manchester City’s Ederson moving to Flamengo this summer, despite widespread discussions among supporters of the Brazilian club.

Interestingly however, it is further claimed that Ederson’s intention is to continue in England rather than consider a return to Brazil or go to any other country at this stage of his career, despite strong reports detailing ongoing negotiations with Turkish giants Galatasaray.

What remains clear is that Ederson has options on the table, but whether City are prepared to sanction his departure so late in the window is another question entirely, particularly if their financial demands are not met.

With Stefan Ortega also attracting interest from the Bundesliga as he pursues regular minutes to bolster his Germany 2026 World Cup ambitions, Guardiola and the Etihad Stadium hierarchy face the risk of losing two of their senior shot-stoppers in the same market.

For now, it appears as though Ederson’s personal preference – to remain in England – suggests that if he is to leave Manchester City, the solution may be far less straightforward than first thought.

As the final days of the transfer window approach, Manchester City supporters will be waiting anxiously for clarity on the goalkeeping department. As for those at Flamengo and in Brazil, such links appear firmly off the table.
