Chelsea will be hoping to follow up their 5-1 win against the Hammers with another win before the international break.

Enzo Maresca gives update on Moises Caicedo

Fulham won’t be an easy game and the Blues lost the corresponding fixture last season, and Maresca is missing a number of players through injury.

Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile are still out, whilst Maresca confirmed Cole Palmer will also miss the game after the injury he picked up in the warm-up ahead of the game against West Ham.

The Blues do have cover for Palmer, but it’s a blow nonetheless, and now Maresca has cast doubt over whether Caicedo will feature.

“I don’t think that it is random that our three players with the most minutes last year were Levi [Colwill], Cole and Moi [Caicedo].” he said as quoted by BBC Sport.

“Levi is injured, Cole too and Moi today only had his first training session since the West Ham game.”

Caicedo is vital for Chelsea and started all 38 Premier League games last season, and if he were to miss out it’s likely Dario Essugo would come in and take his place.

Club World Cup could cause Chelsea problems

It was a fantastic achievement to win the Club World Cup, but playing up until the middle of July could have a real impact on Chelsea’s season.

The Blues have already picked up a few injury issues, and the unfortunate reality is more are likely to come their way throughout the campaign.

Maresca does have a deeper squad at his disposal which is key, but squad management this season is going to be more important than ever.
