Inter Milan got their Serie A season off to a flying start by beating Torino 5-0.

The Nerazzurri really needed this kind of a boost in morale, as well.

Last season, Inter had a bitterly disappointing end to the campaign. Having been in the running for three trophies until the very end of the campaign, they ended the season empty-handed.

Then, Inter participated in the Club World Cup in the US in June.

The Nerazzurri got out of the group stage at that tournament. However, in the round of sixteen they bombed out against Brazilian side Fluminense.

That Club World Cup exit felt like a low point for Inter. Particularly considering that they had lost Simone Inzaghi as coach, with Cristian Chivu taking over,

Then, there was a very public outburst after the loss to Fluminense from Inter captain Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine took aim at midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu amid transfer links to Galatasaray.

Inter captain Martinez commented that “we talked a lot amongst ourselves after the Club World Cup.”

He added that “the coach is giving us a massive hand and pushing us to work hard.”

“We saw a team that wanted to win the ball back right away when they lost it. This is the mentality that we’ve started with under our new coach.”

“We’re happy with this first match,” said Martinez.

The Inter captain added that “everyone, including the players who came off the bench, was fired up,”

“At the start of the season, your energy is renewed.”

‘And today we showed a lot of desire to get going again.”

“We’re Inter and we have to always stay at the top,” said Martinez.
