Inter made the trip to Cagliari and were forced to work in order to occupy top spot in Serie A with a 3-0 victory at the Sardegna Arena.

It was one-way traffic as the visitors dominated the pitch away from home, but it took almost an hour to find the net as Cagliari proved a determined defence.

Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram were the most active in front of goal for Inter, but goalkeeper Simone Scuffet was on hand to deny long-range efforts.

Other chances went wasted as the visitors registered only two efforts on target by the first 45 minutes. After the break, however, Inter found their touch and let the goals fly.

Alessandro Bastoni broke the deadlock after his looping header at the back post finally beat Scuffet and turned things 1-0.

Martinez doubled the lead and broke his goal drought after seven Serie A games without finding the net. He redirected a ball from Nicolo Barella from point-blank range for his 10th goal against Cagliari in 10 matches.

The match was then ultimately put to bed when Hakan Çalhanoğlu stepped up to the penalty spot and ensured Inter walked away with three points.
