Lazio are said to be closing in on Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite, a potential replacement for wantaway centre-back Romagnoli.
Sky Sport Italia reports that the clubs are close to an agreement, with Union Berlin ready to let Leite go for 2.5 million as his contract expires in June. The move could be finalised on Friday, although Lazio still need to agree personal terms with the Portuguese.
Meanwhile, Alfredo Pedullà claims Lazio already have an agreement with Union Berlin and have offered a three-year contract.
Romagnoli is keen to leave within 24 hours after a breakdown in relations with president Claudio Lotito and senior figures. The club said in a statement that the 31-year-old is no longer on the market, yet he is pushing for Roberto Mancini’s Al-Sadd, has refused to train and was not called up for Friday’s Genoa match. Pedullà adds that a decisive meeting with his entourage is planned after the game, with the window closing on Saturday.
Porto-born Leite came through his hometown club before joining Union in the summer of 2023 for 2.7 million. The left-footed centre-back has made 17 appearances across all competitions, contributing one assist.
