Lazio will have two representatives in the Italy squad that will take on Germany in the UEFA Nations League Quarter-finals, as Mattia Zaccagni and Nicolo Rovella were both selected.

The Background

The Azzurri finished second in the group stage, so they will host the first leg at San Siro on Thursday before travelling to Dortmund for the decisive second leg. Luciano Spalletti has now released his 25-man squad, and it includes two Biancocelesti in the shape of Zaccagni and Rovella.

Mattia Zaccagni Back in Italy Squad

This is delightful news for the Lazio skipper who has been omitted on recent occasions. The winger has been considered unfit to Spalletti’s 3-4-2-1 system, but has now managed to force his way back to selection after consistently impressive displays for the Italian capital side. He thus joins an attacking department that includes the likes of Moise Kean, Mateo Retegui and Matteo Politano.

Nicolo Rovella In, Alessio Romagnoli Out

On the other hand, Rovella’s inclusion was hardly a surprise. Spalletti has been growing increasingly fond of the 23-year-old midfielder who is emerging as one of the finest deep-lying playmakers in the country. He will be looking to cement himself a starting role, although he’s facing competition from Torino’s regista Matteo Ricci.

Sadly, for Alessio Romagnoli, he didn’t make the cut despite his outstanding goal-scoring run in recent fixtures.
