Lazio are set to be without both of their primary goalkeeping options for Sunday’s Derby della Capitale against Roma after Edoardo Motta was ruled out. That leaves Maurizio Sarri forced to hand a Serie A debut to 24-year-old Alessio Furlanetto.

According to Football Italia, regular no. 1 Ivan Provedel has missed the last nine Serie A rounds after season-ending shoulder surgery. Former back-up Christos Mandas moved to Premier League side AFC Bournemouth on loan with an option to buy in January.

Motta, 21, had been deputising since joining from Serie C club Reggiana in January. He has now suffered a muscular problem and will be unavailable this weekend.

The timing is particularly awkward for the Biancocelesti, with the next fixture coming against their archrivals. The derby could prove decisive in the race for the Serie A top four.

Furlanetto has been on Lazio’s books for a decade, joining the academy in 2016, yet he has not made a competitive senior appearance.

His senior minutes came in Serie C, on loan at Renate in 2022-23 and Fermana in 2023-24.
