Lazio have rejected a €10 million offer from Besiktas for Nuno Tavares and intend to keep the left-back. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the bid from the club in Türkiye would have triggered a 35% sell-on for Arsenal, who now miss a small boost.

The Portuguese joined in summer 2024 on loan from Arsenal, then made the move permanent a year later for €6 million. The 26-year-old produced eight assists in his first eight matches before muscle injuries checked his progress.

His second season started poorly as he struggled with Maurizio Sarri’s more disciplined and defensive approach compared to Marco Baroni’s. After a long spell on the bench, he reclaimed the starting berth from Luca Pellegrini in the second half of the campaign.

Gennaro Gattuso is pleased to reunite with Tavares, who worked under him at Olympique Marseille. Despite Alfonso Pedraza arriving on a free transfer, the coach is counting on the Portugal international.

Tavares and Pedraza are expected to compete for a starting place, while Pellegrini will likely be sold.
