Lazio have reportedly taken the opportunity to monitor Fenerbahce midfielder Sebastian Szymanski during last week’s friendly.

Lazio Played Fenerbahce & Galatarasay in Back-to-Back Friendlies

The Biancocelesti spent their week in Istanbul, playing against Turkiye’s two biggest clubs in back-to-back friendlies. Maurizio Sarri’s men fell short against Fenerbahce on Wednesday, with Jose Mourinho’s side prevailing by a solitary goal. Nevertheless, the Italians produced a significantly better showing on Saturday, registering a 2-2 draw with Galatasaray in an entertaining affair.

Lazio Enquire About Sebastian Szymanski

Although Lazio are prevented from making any new signings this summer due to a transfer ban imposed by COVISOC, the club is still seeking opportunities on the market. According to Turkish portal Takvim (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Biancocelesti officials met with their Fenerbahce counterparts after their match to discuss Szymanski.

As the source explains, Fenerbahce expressed their desire to keep the Poland international at the club this summer, while the Aquile remain handcuffed, at least until January when the ban is expected to be lifted. Therefore, this can be considered a mere attempt from the Italian capital side to pave the way for a future onslaught.

Lazio Lacking Midfield Creativity

Since his return to the club earlier this summer, Sarri noted that his squad is lacking a creative midfielder capable of linking the lines and performing the duties that were entrusted to Luis Alberto in the past. Hence, Szymanski could be the right profile for the role thanks to his vision, quality plays and brilliant left foot.

Szymanski’s Background, Stats & Market Value

The 26-year-old is an attacking midfielder who began his career at Legia Warsaw, and then had experiences at Dynamo Moscow and Feyenoord, before joining Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023.

The Pole cemented himself as a key player for Mourinho last season, producing seven goals and nine assists. His contract with the Turkish giants is valid until 2027, while his market value is estimated at €15 million by Transfermarkt.
