Lazio are reportedly considering a move for Fenerbahce’s attacking midfielder Sebastian Szymanski who has been a protégé of Jose Mourinho.

Lazio Looking for an Attacking Midfielder

The Biancocelesti are reportedly in the market for a new Number 10, a profile they lacked since the departure of Luis Alberto last summer. This season, Boulaye Dia has been playing behind Taty Castellanos in Marco Baroni’s 4-2-3-1 formation, but many believe the management is now seeking a more natural profile for the attacking-midfielder role.

Sebastian Szymanski Attracts Lazio Interest

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio are keeping close tabs on Szymanski whom they could decide to pursue in the summer. The report believes that the Poland international would cost them a figure in the region of €15 million.

The 26-year-old started his career at Legia Warsaw before being poached by Dinamo Moscow in the summer of 2019. The midfielder spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Feyenoord before signing for Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 on a transfer worth €10 million. His contract with the Turkish giants is valid until June 2027.

Jose Mourinho’s Admiration

Szymanski has established himself as a regular starter under Mourinho this season, contributing with seven goals and nine assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. The Special One expressed his great admiration for the Pole earlier in the campaign, revealing he wanted to sign him during his time at Roma.

The Fenerbahce star isn’t the only attacking midfielder who has been linked with a move to Lazio recently. RB Leipzig’s Christoph Baumgartner is also on Angelo Fabiani’s radar.
