Rafael Leao has confirmed that he will report for pre-season training with Milan on July 29, as he is contracted to do, but admits that he has spoken with the club about a possible departure this summer and says ‘I don’t know what will happen’.

Leao comments on Milan future: ‘I will be there on July 29’

Leao has been widely tipped to leave Milan this summer after spending the last seven seasons in San Siro.

At the age of 27, and off the back of a disappointing Serie A campaign that saw the Rossoneri miss out on Champions League qualification, and given that the Portugal international is the club’s highest earner, the feeling from both sides is that now might be the right time to part ways.

Leao has been based with the Portugal national team for the majority of the summer and is currently still on holiday after his involvement at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

He is currently in Brazil, where he has attended a number of publicity events to promote his clothing brand, and briefly discussed his future while chatting to the Brazilian podcast ‘Podpah’.

He admitted that he has spoken with Milan about the possibility of leaving, says that he will report for pre-season training next week, but admits that the situation remains up in the air.

“I’ve already spoken with the club about the possibility of trying a new experience,” said Leao (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).

“I don’t know what will happen, I have to show up at Milanello on the 29th, and as long as I’m there, I will always give my best and respect the shirt that has given me everything.”

He continued: “It’s a club that has helped me a lot in so many different ways, but in life, you have other ambitions as well. I will study the options, but for now, I remain a Milan player.”

Meanwhile, the latest reports in Italy claim that Fenerbahce are due to speak with Leao’s representatives and that they are prepared to offer Leao a €10m-per-season salary, an increase on his current wages in San Siro, but it remains to be seen whether the Portugal international is willing to move to Turkey at this stage of his career.
