Harry Gray, 17, has returned to Thorp Arch for treatment on a hamstring strain, so will miss the start of Lee Clark's tenure at Rotherham United. His new boss says the Leeds United loanee's season is not over.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Gray had been ever present since a January loan to aid the Millers' survival bid, but sat out the midweek heavy defeat to Peterborough United. The next day Matt Hamshaw was sacked and replaced quickly by Clark.
Clark said it is common for young loanees to receive treatment at their parent clubs, and Leeds' proximity allows Gray to use the Premier League club's facilities. He hopes the forward will be available for the next group of matches after Saturday.
Hamshaw had rated Gray highly and guaranteed regular minutes, which helped secure the move. Clark wants the teenager back as soon as possible and described him as an exciting prospect with strong pedigree.
He added that injuries have blighted Rotherham's season and that as many players were in the treatment room as available for selection when he arrived. The staff know Saturday's personnel, and he hopes several can return for the remaining eight games.
Rotherham visit league-leading Lincoln City on Saturday, managed by former Leeds coach Michael Skubala, then host Stevenage at New York Stadium. Gray's problem is thought to be relatively minor and should keep him out for two to three weeks at most.
