A Leeds pub can screen England’s World Cup games outdoors after agreeing reduced hours with the council.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds City Council granted permission once the opening times were cut back.

Applications for temporary event notices faced opposition from the council’s Environmental Protection Team, which cited the proximity of homes on Leeds and Bradford Road and Broad Lane. The Kirkstall Bridge Inn had sought to open until three am and show matches in its car park.

Outdoor drinks service is allowed until 11.20pm on 17 and 23 June, and until midnight on 27 June, covering England’s first three fixtures.

The first two nine pm games against Croatia and Ghana will be screened, with the Panama match on 27 June kicking off at 10pm UK time.

The pub, run by Kirkstall Brewery, already holds permission to show sport indoors until two am, with outside areas restricted to 11pm.

Permission was also sought to serve alcohol in the private car park during the screenings, with attendance capped at 450 including staff.

The three applications were due to go before a licensing sub-committee on Tuesday, but the hearing was dropped after an agreement was reached.
