Leeds United’s frustration with the officiating in their defeat by Sunderland has been upheld, with the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel judging a first-half penalty should have been awarded.

According to the BBC, the KMI panel unanimously found the officials were wrong, determining Luke O'Nien impeded Pascal Struijk without attempting to play the ball and prevented him progressing towards goal.

Struijk went to ground in the box after O'Nien grabbed him around the neck, but referee Stuart Attwell let play continue and VAR did not step in. Daniel Farke later called the non-award “crazy”.

Officiating has become a recurring theme for Farke. He was angered by the absence of a penalty for an apparent handball against Man City, and was sent off after full-time for jogging onto the pitch to ask Peter Bankes why he had blown up so soon after the minimum stoppage time had been played.

At Crystal Palace on Sunday he was frustrated by Gabriel Gudmundsson’s dismissal by Thomas Bramall for a second bookable offence, insisting the challenge was never a yellow card. Later, Brennan Johnson avoided a second yellow for a foul on James Justin that Farke considered worse.
