Leeds United confirm Max Wöber exit after contract termination | OneFootball

Leeds United have confirmed the permanent departure of Max Wöber after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, allowing the defender to leave Elland Road as a free agent.

The Austria international joined from RB Salzburg in January 2023 for £10m on a four-and-a-half year deal due to run until next summer, but that agreement has been cut short. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Salzburg inserted a sell-on clause in 2023 that would have produced only a minimal fee had he been sold.

He made 28 first-team appearances during three-and-a-half years on the books. Nineteen of those came in his debut campaign, and he later spent two seasons out on loan after triggering a relegation release clause to join Borussia Monchengladbach in 2023.

Wöber returned for the Championship title-winning 2024/25 season but was limited to eight league matches, scoring once. He moved to Werder Bremen on loan last term, suffered a serious knee injury on debut and played only three times.

He is on the verge of joining Schalke after medical tests.
