Leeds United have been linked again with Union Berlin centre-back Danilo Doekhi, whose contract expires this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman is ‘set to leave’ as a free agent when the season ends, with interest in his signature increasing after an impressive 2025/26 campaign.

Leeds considered the 27-year-old in January but there was no progress then. If they revisit the idea, competition is likely to be strong, with Borussia Dortmund and clubs in Saudi Arabia among the suitors.

Doekhi has played every Bundesliga minute this season and scored five goals from centre-back. He is 6ft 3ins, right-footed and can operate on the right or in the centre of a back three.

Born in Rotterdam, he came through Excelsior and Ajax, featuring for Jong Ajax during the same period as Pascal Struijk. He left in 2018 for Vitesse, making 140 appearances and often captaining the side, before joining Union Berlin in May 2022. He has since played 134 games in all competitions, scoring 16 goals.

Leeds are relatively well stocked on the right, with Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol regulars and James Justin and Sebastiaan Bornauw able to cover. Uncertainty is greater on the left, where Struijk is the only natural option and enters the final 12 months of his deal this summer. As a free agent, Doekhi could still represent a low-risk, low-cost addition.
