Facundo Buonanotte was left out of Leeds United’s squad for Friday’s win over Nottingham Forest, a selection call rather than injury, and now faces an uphill push to make Tuesday’s trip to Chelsea.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke said the loanee has had little chance to stake a claim since, with a small-group session on Saturday and a light, tactical workout on Sunday. He called Buonanotte a good professional and said the reaction was as expected.

The attacking midfielder arrived at Elland Road at the second attempt in January, having made a late U-turn in the summer to join Chelsea. With minutes scarce at Stamford Bridge, the Brighton player ended that loan and moved to Leeds for the relegation run-in.

He appeared from the bench in the draw at Everton and the defeat by Arsenal, then was omitted against Forest as returning Daniel James and Willy Gnonto were preferred among the attacking substitutes.

Farke hinted there would be little rotation between Friday and Tuesday because of the gap between games and no new injuries in forward areas, leaving Buonanotte with a battle to regain a place.

Leeds head to Stamford Bridge seeking to complete the double after a 3-1 victory at Elland Road earlier in the season, though Farke said that result will not matter on Tuesday, noting Chelsea have a different manager and slight tweaks to their style.
