Leeds United have submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council for a Fan Park at Elland Road, part of the stadium’s ongoing redevelopment. The venue is planned for around 2,000 people.
The club said in a statement that it would be a flexible, multi-purpose space able to host live events and screenings, with two levels of bars and seating and an outdoor courtyard. Designs also include areas for food and drink retailers and a new roof for natural light and ventilation. The aim is to create a modern social space for LS11.
Leeds recently bought the warehouse and units beside the Stadium Way car park, opposite the East Stand, and plan to convert part of the building while retaining its industrial character.
Earlier this year the council approved phase one of the ground’s upgrade. Work on a new West Stand has begun behind the existing structure, with a North Stand planned, and a projected final capacity of around 53,000.
The proposal aligns with the council’s wider regeneration plans for the Elland Road masterplan area, including mixed-use development to the west, north and east of the stadium, and a mass transit system serving the site.
Leeds have also scheduled the first ever stadium liaison meeting for Thursday 23 July at 6pm in the Gary Speed Suite at Elland Road, offering the public updates, feedback opportunities on the Fan Park and a forum to raise concerns.
