Leeds United beat Burnley 3-1 under the Elland Road lights on Friday, deepening the woes of 18th-placed Spurs. The Whites rose to 43 points and above Newcastle into 14th before the Magpies face Brighton on Saturday, leaving Tottenham nine points back with four to play.
As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the display was imperfect yet apt for the season, featuring an Anton Stach long-range strike, a flowing move and a scrappy finish. The report also judged Thomas Bramall's officiating the worst Elland Road has seen this campaign.
Stach, back after two and a half weeks out and only 45 minutes against Chelsea, was slightly surprised to start, yet his early impetus was key and his goal another cracker. Farke's name echoed at full-time and few would bet against more to come in the final three.
Jaka Bijol dominated Zian Flemming in the air as a six-foot-four centre-back should, and a line-splitting pass into Stach yielded an assist.
Off camera, chairman Paraag Marathe and club hierarchy walked the pitch after meeting the Supporters Advisory Board, while former chairman Andrea Radrizzani appeared in the directors' box, later embracing Marathe and posing with his son.
Hannibal Mejbri protested sprinklers during the first half and clashed with a groundsman at half-time. On the pitch he was floored by Ethan Ampadu, then caught Brenden Aaronson, apologised but was booked and headed for the tunnel at full-time. Farke also raged when a Leeds change went through before he was ready, aiming his ire at fourth official Adam Herczeg.
