Leeds United have kicked off the summer by signing Harry Wilson on a free and are pushing for further reinforcements, including Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.
The Mail reports that Leeds have tabled a £23m bid for Charles, including add-ons. Southampton want a £30m package due to a 15% sell-on clause owed to Man City.
Leeds saw an initial £20m offer rejected last month. Daniel Farke is an admirer of the Northern Ireland international, and club great Stuart Dallas has called him outstanding.
Southampton were knocked out of the play-offs, and Leeds are attempting to capitalise. Charles is regarded as young yet experienced, with his peak still ahead.
Harry Wilson almost moved to Elland Road on deadline day last summer, then delivered his best campaign in 25-26. He contributed to 17 Premier League goals for Fulham, drawing interest from bigger European clubs.
Leeds still aim to add four or five more signings, with Julian Brandt, Lloyd Kelly and Zion Suzuki among those linked. Hayden Hackney, another standout in the division, has joined Everton.
Midfield competition already features Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka and Sean Longstaff. If Charles arrives, decisions will follow on existing options. Leeds have already cashed in on Pascal Struijk due to his contract situation, and Gruev may suffer the same fate.
