Leeds United ended the summer window content with their business yet frustrated that a move for Harry Wilson fell through. With January nearing, attention has turned to fresh attacking options and Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas has re-emerged.
According to Fichajes, Leeds are willing to meet a £eight million fee to sign the versatile winger in January, with performance-related bonuses potentially taking the cost towards £18m.
Wilson’s future is unclear as his contract expires in the summer. Fulham appear reluctant to sell in January, even if that risks a free transfer. Leeds want to strengthen now as they push to avoid relegation from the top flight.
Leeds are also being linked with other forwards, including Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling. Vargas can operate wide or across the front line.
Newcastle United have been linked too, while Sevilla are in no hurry to sell a player they signed from FC Augsburg last January.
The Switzerland international is a team-mate of Leeds’ Noah Okafor and has been on the club’s radar for some time.
