Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson missed Sweden training on Wednesday through illness, placing his involvement in Monday’s World Cup opener against Tunisia in doubt.

Aftonbladet reports he remained absent and relayed comments from Sweden’s press officer, who said everyone trained except Gudmundsson and that he stayed at the hotel. They described him as in a bad state with mild symptoms, while declining to discuss individual health details.

The left-back had also skipped Tuesday’s session after falling ill. It came just after a five-week lay-off with a hamstring injury sustained in April’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.

The report said he would be a certain starter against Tunisia if he recovers, with Graham Potter preferring him at left wing-back. Gudmundsson started both World Cup qualifying play-off matches.

Teammate Hjalmar Ekdal said the squad had received little information, adding that Gudmundsson was likely in a bad way and isolating as much as possible.

Sweden open against Tunisia in Guadalupe, Mexico on June 15, then face the Netherlands in Houston, Texas five days later, before meeting Ao Tanaka’s Japan in Arlington on June 26.
