Famous Italian coach Fabio Capello has offered a piece of advice to new Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu.

During an interview Corriere della Sera via FCInter1908, Capello also spoke about Hakan Calhanoglu.

Inter Milan reluctantly severed ties with Simone Inzaghi after a stomach-wrenching 2024/25 season.

Indeed, the 49-year-old decided to leave San Siro after four years to take over the reins at Al-Hilal.

Pressured to find a replacement quickly, Inter turned to Cristian Chivu after Cesc Fabregas refused to depart Como.

Though Inter stuttered at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, they got the new Serie A season off to a flyer.

However, a 5-0 rout of Torino faded as Udinese stunned the Nerazzurri on the following weekend.

Now, they’re looking to bounce back, with Juventus set to host them in Turin on Saturday.

Capello highlighted the importance of Saturday’s Derby d’Italia.

“Let’s say it will be a crucial step for the Nerazzurri to show they’ve moved past PSG,” he said. “For the Bianconeri, it’s an important test to confirm they are title contenders.”

Chivu’s men have a point to prove this weekend as they aim to reaffirm their Scudetto credentials.

Meanwhile, Capello believes it’s up to Chivu to help his team regain confidence and weather the storm.

“When I arrived in Milan, after Sacchi, I gathered the players and said to them: ‘Everyone says you’re tired, exhausted. Prove them wrong.’

“Inter should also push their players like this, to make us critics eat our words. The players need to have the desire to turn the lights back on.”

Then, Capello slammed Hakan Calhanoglu for his recent drop-off.

Asked whether Chivu can replicate Inzaghi’s success in the Champions League, he replied; “Yes, but the team is potentially there.

“Obviously, the coach must get back players who have been decisive in the past.

“For example, Calhanoglu, who currently drifts across the pitch.”
