Cristian Vieri believes Inter Milan should have wrapped up three points much sooner in last night’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo at San Siro.

Speaking to DAZN via FCInter1908, Vieri hailed the collective team effort but slammed Inter’s scoring prowess.

Inter got back on track after losing back-to-back league matches to Udinese and Juventus.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri secured their second Serie A win under Cristian Chivu.

Federico Dimarco drew first blood in the 14th minute. Yet, Inter had to wait for Tarik Muharemovic’s own goal in the 81st minute to double their lead.

However, Chivu’s side couldn’t avoid another nerve-wracking finish as Walid Cheddira restored drama in the 84th minute.

Furthermore, Sassuolo had a late penalty appeal rejected by referee Livio Marinelli.

Therefore, San Siro witnessed another tense finale, with Inter narrowly holding on to claim all three points.

Meanwhile, Inter dominated proceedings, boasting 61% possession and tallying 20 shots on goal, including six on target.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t convert their dominance into a more comprehensive win.

“For me, Inter played a great match and dominated,” Vieri confirmed. “But games need to be closed earlier.

“Martinez made a fantastic save around the 20th minute from the end, and it would have been a shame if it had ended in a draw.

“Pio Esposito played an excellent game, similar to his performance in Amsterdam, and he even had 2-3 chances.”

“The team can only improve, after all, we’re only at matchday four.

“They have great quality, anyone can score, and they attack with many players. We saw a fantastic team performance against Sassuolo.”

Despite all the drama, Inter went back-to-back after overcoming Ajax in their Champions League opener on Wednesday.

Chivu’s side will return to action on Saturday when they head to Sardinia to take on Cagliari at the Unipol Domus.
