Massimo Moratti has urged Inter Milan not to get too comfortable at the top of Serie A, claiming that complacency could derail their title charge.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss via FCInter1908, the former Nerazzurri president warned the leaders against letting overconfidence creep in.

Cristian Chivu is close to winning the Scudetto in his first year at San Siro.

Indeed, the 20-time Italian champions boast a substantial seven-point lead over runners-up AC Milan, with only ten games left to play.

However, the Rossoneri rekindled their slim title ambitions with a narrow 1-0 win in last Sunday’s Milan derby.

Despite that setback, Chivu’s men remain in firm control of their Scudetto fate.

Still, any potential slip-up down the final stretch could prove costly.

Therefore, Inter will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Atalanta at San Siro on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Inter will take on out-of-sorts Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in another high-profile weekend fixture.

Massimo Moratti Sends Inter Milan a Scudetto Warning

“We’re not in the best shape, but over the years, in one way or another, Italian teams have made it to the Champions League and gone fairly far,” Massimo Moratti said. “Then there were heavy defeats, like Inter in the final, or Juventus being unable to win the European Cup.

“Overall, we did reasonably well. This time, though, the situation seems very embarrassing: no Italian team has gone beyond the Round of 16, and they’ve lost badly.”

Meanwhile, the legendary former president told the media that the Nerazzurri must maintain focus and intensity for the remaining ten games of the season.

“Looking at it this way, Inter still have enough distance to do well, unless they get scared,” Moratti added. “That could create problems. If they start to feel fear, things could turn bad.

“You absolutely have to take that advantage into account. It’s necessary to win the league comfortably. And you need to stay physically fit, beyond the psychological aspect: Inter must run more than they’re doing right now.”
