According to a report from RMC Sport, Lens’ main ultra group Red Tigers staged a walkout in the away section of Stade de la Beaujoire on Sunday during their side’s 3-1 defeat. This was following claims that police used tear gas and charged with batons against families, women and children. In a statement, Lens supporters condemned the behaviour of the French police force and explained their reasoning for staging the walkout during the game. “Law enforcement contacted all bus companies at the beginning of the week, so the organszation of the trip was well known. An escort was scheduled for 12:30 PM. However, we arrived at 12:00 PM, and most of our supporters had already been waiting for an hour in an area with no toilets and no comfort. Treated like animals, we finally left at 1:45 PM.“According to the statement, groups of families grew impatient and attempted to enter the stadium. “When family-oriented supporters sought to enter, the response from law enforcement was to use tear gas and batons against families, women, and children,” further explained the statement from Red Tigers. Upon learning of use of excessive force, the leaders of the ultra groups inside the away end were encouraged to remove their banners and leave the ground in protest. On the pitch it wasn’t much better for the Sang & Or. Will Still’s men lost 3-1 to the Canaris and went down to 10-men after the sending off of M’Bala Nzola on the 70th minute, leading to a third consecutive loss for Lens in the league.
