Léo Pereira reported to the Brazil squad on Sunday 22 for the friendlies with France and Croatia. Gabriel Magalhães’ injury could hand the Flamengo defender a chance for minutes.
The Brazilian federation announced on Monday 23 that the Arsenal centre-back had pain in his right knee and was released from the squad. Carlo Ancelotti will not call a replacement in that position.
Gabriel operates on the left of defence, the same side as Pereira, which has raised hopes of a debut for the Flamengo man.
Ancelotti now has five centre-back options, Marquinhos, Bremer, Danilo, Ibañez and Léo Pereira. Alex Sandro was also called, but he suffered a thigh muscle injury in a draw with Corinthians on Sunday 22, so the Italian called Kaiki of Cruzeiro to replace him.
Brazil play France on 26 March at Gillete Stadium, Boston, then face Croatia on 31 March at Camping World Stadium, Orlando.
