Felipe VI will attend Sunday’s 2026 World Cup final in New York with Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, after Spain defeated France to book their place.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the four will be in the MetLife Stadium box in the New York metropolitan area, showing support for La Roja as they chase a second star.
The trip fulfils a promise the King made to the squad in Guadalajara, Mexico, in June. After witnessing the win over Uruguay, he told them he would not see them again until the final. His diary made any earlier journey unworkable.
On the Friday of the quarter-finals, the King, Queen and Sofía were in San Javier, Murcia, accompanying Leonor at the awarding of Reales Despachos that closed her training at the Air and Space General Academy. During Tuesday’s semi-final, Felipe and Letizia presided over the Princess of Girona Awards at Barcelona’s Liceu.
The family watched the 2-0 against France from a Barcelona hotel in Spain shirts, celebrating before the King phoned Luis de la Fuente to congratulate the team. In Empúries the next day, during Fundación Princesa de Girona events, he reiterated to reporters that they would meet again in the final.
