Today’s Chelsea press conference was full of team news updates, including word on Filip Jorgensen.
The Danish goalkeeper disappeared after the PSG game last week where he made a horrible error. Talk of an injury keeping him out for the following game was painted as very convenient, with the implication it had just been invented to soften the dropping of Jorgensen for rival Robert Sanchez.
We said at the time that the conspiracy didn’t make much sense. The goalkeepers had been switched back and forth multiple times, it wouldn’t have been much of an embarrassment to just have Sanchez back in for the second leg and then run with that.
Well, if it is a made up injury, they’re going to some length to sell it. Today, manager Liam Rosenior has reported that Jorgensen has had surgery.
“Filip had a scan and needing minor operation. Not too serious, a matter of weeks,” the Chelsea boss said.
So it looks like Sanchez for the rest of the season then, just a week after he was dropped by his manager for his own poor performance.
Another important update was on Trevoh Chalobah, whose ankle injury is bad but not as serious as it looked.
There has been some chatter about Chelsea changing their transfer model, based on an early Liam Rosenior quote.
