Barcelona tightened their grip on top spot in Liga F with a sizeable victory in Saturday’s Clásico against Real Madrid. Elsewhere, Real Sociedad and Athletic Club shared the points in a close-fought Basque derby.
Barcelona hammered their rivals Real Madrid 4-0 at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Saturday, although the visitors would have felt that the scoreline was not a fair reflection of their efforts. Naomie Feller and Linda Caicedo both spurned golden opportunities in a first half where Ewa Pajor demonstrated the benefit of being clinical in front of goal. The Poland international steered the ball home from Clàudia Pina’s low cross, before she pounced on Misa Rodríguez’s parry to double the home side’s advantage.
Las Blancas were given the chance to set up a grandstand finish when Cata Coll was penalised for her challenge on Athenea del Castillo. However, Caroline Weir failed to take advantage of her 81st-minute penalty, as she saw her effort pushed away by the Barcelona goalkeeper. The Blaugrana pile the misery on their hosts in the closing stages. Sydney Schertenleib scored her first Liga F goal of the season, before substitute Aitana Bonmatí tapped in a fourth to round off a successful outing for the reigning champions.
Atlético Madrid moved up to second spot with a successful home outing against Badalona. The hosts were given the opportunity to open the scoring from the spot after Alexia Férnandez was tripped in the box. Vilde Bøe Risa stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way to register her second Liga F goal of the season. Substitute Lydia Rodríguez then produced a stunning long-range effort in the second period to make sure of the three points.
Real Sociedad left it late to salvage a point from Sunday’s Basque derby against Athletic Club. The visitors appeared to be on their way to a second consecutive win, when Daniela Agote opened the scoring midway through the second period. However, a Naia Landaluze handball presented La Real with the opportunity to go to the penalty spot in stoppage time. Substitute and captain Nerea Eizagirre stepped up to blast home a 96th-minute equaliser to the delight of the home support in the Reale Arena. The late equaliser enabled Real Sociedad to leapfrog Real Madrid into third spot.
Granada fought back from two goals down to rescue a point against Costa Adeje Tenerife. A goalkeeper error allowed Natalia Ramos to open the scoring, before Carlota Suárez found the net against her former club to double Tenerife’s advantage. Laura Requena gave Granada an all-important foothold when she dispatched a spot-kick in first-half stoppage time. That effort ultimately laid the foundation for Ariadna Mingueza to complete the comeback in the 85th minute. The 22-year-old fired the ball high into the net after latching onto Laura Pérez’s neat cut-back. While they missed out on the win, Tenerife have at least gone four matches without defeat.
Espanyol edged out Eibar to record a third successive away win in all competitions. The contest appeared to be heading towards a draw after Júlia Guerra saw her effort cancelled out by Laura Camino. The scoreline remained level until it netted a 77th-minute winner. The 29-year-old steered a header past Eunate Astralaga at the near post to register her fourth league goal of the season.
While Espanyol worked hard for a narrow victory, Madrid CFF produced a free-scoring display to ease past Alhama. Allegra Poljak opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, before Ángela Sosa kept her composure from the penalty to give her side a two-goal lead at the break. Malou Marcetto Rylov and Emilie Nautnes added to the visitors’ tally in the second period. Mariana Díaz Leal denied Madrid CFF a clean sheet with a late consolation goal, although it did little to dampen the away side’s mood following a dominant display.
Elsewhere, Sevilla and Deportivo La Coruña both recorded narrow home victories on matchday 11. Sevilla’s Fatou Kanteh scored the decisive strike against DUX Logroño. The forward drove the ball home from the edge of the box to fire her side to back-to-back league wins.
Meanwhile, Marisa scored her first league goal for Deportivo in a narrow 1-0 win over basement side Levante. As a result, Levante are now seven points adrift of safety and are still searching for their first Liga F win of the season.
Alhama have shipped 32 goals across their 11 league games. That is 10 more than any other team in the top flight. The newly-promoted side will have to tighten up defensively if they are to avoid a relegation battle this term.
Lydia Rodríguez scored her first Liga F goal with a spectacular strike against Badalona. The 19-year-old advanced with the ball until she decided to let fly from distance. Her thunderous effort soared out of the goalkeeper’s reach and whistled into the net.
Deportivo La Coruña 1-0 Levante
Alhama 1-4 Madrid CFF
Barcelona 4-0 Real Madrid
Real Sociedad 1-1 Athletic Club
Atlético Madrid 2-0 Badalona
Costa Adeje Tenerife 2-2 Granada
Sevilla 1-0 DUX Logroño
