Ligue 1 will supply seven of the eight Coupe de France quarter-finalists on four March, a rarity in the 21st century and the first in more than a decade.

Whatever happens in Strasbourg-Monaco on Thursday at 21:00, seven top-flight clubs will make up the last eight. According to L'Équipe, Reims, from Ligue 2, are the only survivors from outside the elite, and this is only the third time this century that seven Ligue 1 sides have reached the quarters, after 2010 and 2013.

It is also the third time this century that no club from the third tier or below has reached this stage, the others being 2013 and 2023.

One factor is that, since the round of 64, only five clubs have been eliminated by lower-ranked opposition across all divisions, including Brest by Avranches (N2), Le Havre by Amiens (L2) and Metz by Montpellier (L2). That is the lowest total in 50 years.

For a completely top-flight quarter-final line-up, you have to go back to the last century, when it happened in 1956, 1975 and 1978.
