With six matches remaining, the Ligue 1 race for Champions League places is wide open. According to Le Progres, Lens hold a 10-point cushion over fourth despite a weekend defeat, only three points split Lille in third from Rennes in seventh, and none of the chasers have European commitments or Coupe de France semi-finals.
Lille look best placed after beating Rennes, Marseille and Lens. Their run-in is largely against sides placed 10th or lower, though a penultimate trip to Monaco could be pivotal before hosting Auxerre on the final day, when the visitors may still be fighting for safety.
Marseille can be encouraged if momentum returns. Aside from ninth-placed Lorient, OM face teams hovering near the drop in their next five, with a final-day visit from Rennes the standout test, provided they rebuild confidence against lesser opposition, particularly away.
For Monaco, a breather precedes a late push. After victories over PSG, Brest, Lyon and Marseille, Paris FC, Toulouse and possibly Metz may have little at stake, but hosting Lille then finishing at Strasbourg could define their finish.
Lyon’s programme is among the sternest, with PSG, Rennes and Lens still to play. The consolation is four home fixtures in their last six.
Rennes face a split schedule, welcoming Angers, Nantes and Paris FC, but travelling to Strasbourg, Lyon and OM. Those away days could prove costly in points.
