Lino is thriving under Leonardo Jardim during Flamengo’s training camp in Portugal, back where his European journey began. He impressed in the draw with River Plate and is aiming to sustain that level into the second half of the year.

According to Globo.com, Jardim’s arrival aligns with Flamengo’s 2026 target of improving Lino, a signing worth more than R$ 200 million. The coach’s style suits him and he has made Brazil’s provisional World Cup list.

Lino played for Gil Vicente from 2019 to 2022 before being sold to Atlético de Madrid. Before moving to Portugal he had a spell in Flamengo’s academy, struggled to adapt and returned to São Bernardo. In Barcelos he settled quickly alongside goalkeeper Andrew, now at Flamengo, and earned moves to Valencia and Atlético.

He has faced Benfica seven times, six for Gil Vicente and one for Atlético in the Champions League, winning two while the Portuguese side won five. In 2022 he opened the scoring in a 2-1 win for his former club.

This season he has 32 official appearances, 21 starts, six goals and nine assists, second only to Pedro for goal contributions. After the River match he said the Algarve heat makes the work challenging, but the camp is helping, the team responded well after a few days off, he feels he is improving, and he enjoys working with Jardim.

Flamengo face Lausanne-Sport on Wednesday at 16:30, Brasília time, at Estádio do Algarve. Benfica follow on 11 July as the final opponent of this training block.
