Anytime Lionel Messi conducts an interview he’s always asked about his two seasons in the French capital playing for Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, the Argentine usually repeats the same response that he wasn’t happy, which he did again.
Messi played for the Parisians from 2021 to 2023 and afterward, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner made 75 total appearances for the Ligue 1 side, recording 32 goals and 35 assists.
Nonetheless, during his time with the French side, they failed to advance past the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, so it was a signing that didn’t help in PSG’s efforts to win the competition that has eluded them.

Messi is enjoying life in the United States. In an interview with Apple Music, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner shared how he felt about his three years in Paris after needing to leave FC Barcelona in an abrupt fashion in 2021.
“The way things turned out in my last years in Paris, even though I had to make a quick decision to leave Barcelona, I ended up spending two years that I didn’t enjoy,” Messi said (h/t L’Equipe). “I wasn’t happy day to day—whether it was training, matches, or just adapting to everything.”
The 37-year-old is in his second full season in MLS, but he’s yet to win the league or the region’s top international competition, the Concacaf Champions Cup with Inter Miami. Nonetheless, he has won Leagues Cup 2023 and the Community Shield as the club with the most points during the 2024 MLS season.
