Despite some hair-raising moments in the second half, Liverpool held onto their lead to take all three points from the Merseyside derby.

Ryan Gravenberch set Anfield alight after producing a moment of magic to put Arne Slot’s men in front inside the opening 10 minutes.

Hugo Ekitike then doubled the lead with a clinical finish through the legs of Jordan Pickford, with Gravenberch this time the provider with an inch-perfect pass.

A spirited second half saw Everton reduce the deficit to one with a rocket strike from Idrissa Gueye, but it would be the home side who secured all three points and maintained their 100% unbeaten record.

As it happened

After a lively start to the derby, Gravenberch produced a moment of brilliance, half-volleying a strike over Pickford into the far corner, sending the home fans into raptures.

Momentum began to build for the hosts, and their lead was nearly doubled moments later when Mohamed Salah floated a curling effort towards that same top-left corner, only for the strike to fly just over the bar.

Ekitike then raced through on goal and coolly slotted the ball through Pickford’s legs to score on his Merseyside derby debut.

Everton’s only shot on target in the first half came during added time, with Gueye slicing an effort straight into Alisson’s hands.

Salah had the chance to wrap the game up for Liverpool, but his low drive was hit straight down the middle and comfortably saved by Pickford.

Just moments later, Everton counter-attacked, and Gueye fired a thunderous shot from just outside the box into the top corner, making it a one-goal game.

David Moyes’ men continued to push for an equaliser but lacked a cutting edge, meaning Liverpool keep their 100% win record intact and stay at the top of the table.
