Liverpool are developing a keen interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven, according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds are looking for a successor to the legendary Virgil Van Dijk, and his Dutch compatriot fits the bill. They will test Spurs’ resolve this summer.

Liverpool are preparing for a defensive overhaul, with Ibrahima Konate poised to leave and Joe Gomez likely following him out the door.

With so many gaps to plug, Van de Ven is on the shortlist of reinforcements the club is considering.

The Liverpool target has caught the eye with his speed, reading of the game, leadership, and ball-playing ability.

Van de Ven is difficult to beat on the grass, winning 61% of his ground duels in the Premier League. He has also contributed three goals.

At 24, he has years ahead of him to grow into the massive boot of Van Dijk, but the raw tools are there. He can develop into one of the best in the world.

However, there are legitimate concerns that Liverpool cannot afford to ignore.

Van de Ven’s explosive pace is a tremendous asset, but it is also a strength his game relies on heavily.

Any decline, even a marginal one, would expose limitations that speed currently masks.

Worryingly, niggling injuries have already interrupted his momentum at Spurs, raising questions about durability in a system that demands relentless intensity and availability.

There is also the aerial side of the game.

Van de Ven is competent rather than commanding in the air, and Liverpool have been spoiled for years by Van Dijk’s dominance in both boxes.

Defending set-pieces, clearing long balls and imposing authority are non-negotiables at Anfield, and this is an area where the Tottenham defender still lags behind the elite.

After years of Van Dijk setting the standard, Van de Ven could feel like a step down rather than a seamless succession.
