In a recent segment on Youtube, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. It has been mentioned that the Reds are showing interest in recruiting the French centre-forward this summer.

Ekitike’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Bundesliga

Ekitike had a fruitful campaign at the German club after he put in a handful of impressive displays as the spearhead of their attack. The French attacker participated in 48 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, scoring 22 times and earning 12 assists in various competitions.

The 23-year-old led the line well as he averaged 4.0 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 38.6% of his attempts on target. Ekitike was even excellent when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 75.5% in the German top-flight (stats via fbref.com).

Ekitike is under contract at Frankfurt until the summer of 2029. Therefore, the Reds would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing the French forward in this transfer window.

What Will Ekitike Bring To Liverpool?

Ekitike is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to engineer a few clear-cut chances for his teammates in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.

The Reims-born talent managed to chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. Standing at 1.90, Ekitike is a strong presence in the air but only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Reds manage to land him this summer.

We can expect him to bring more firepower to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s frontline. He would serve as an upgrade over Darwin Nunez who has struggled to be consistent during his time at the Merseyside club.

At 23, Ekitike has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Reds to consider in this transfer period. However, Slot needs to give him some time before he can unlock the best out of the French forward.
