Liverpool boss launches staunch defence of club’s lavish transfer spending
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot defended the club's summer transfer spending, which saw them invest £450m in eight new players, including a British record £125m for Alexander Isak.
Slot highlighted that the club recouped nearly £300m from player sales, arguing that critics focused only on the gross spending without acknowledging the net figure.
He criticised pundits for what he perceived as favouritism towards other clubs, suggesting they deliberately overlooked Liverpool's significant income from player disposals.
Slot explained Liverpool's transfer strategy involves acquiring young players, aged 25 or under, who are considered long-term investments and retain high resale value.
The head coach also voiced his dissatisfaction with the current Champions League format, particularly the draw system after the group stage, which he believes can lead to imbalanced fixtures.
