Liverpool could revisit Crystal Palace to resolve defensive shortages

Writing for the Daily Mail’s Liverpool transfer briefing, Lewis Steele name dropped Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix as a player Liverpool have previously held an interest in whilst discussing possibly defensive additions.

Lacroix’s name being mentioned feels significant. There is a near endless list of players that Liverpool have considered in the past, and the Frenchman is no doubt a player they could consider once again.

The 25-year-old has played every minute for Palace in the Premier League this year and has become an integral part of how the Eagles play.

The former Wolfsburg man could also prove to be a more cost-effective option for the Reds compared to some of the other names they are being linked with, Alessandro Bastoni for example.

Could Liverpool get Lacroix?

Guehi looks almost certain to leave Palace, either for a fee in January or for free in the summer, and that will hinder anyone’s chances of signing Palace’s second most trusted defender, Lacroix.

Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, also looks likely to leave before the start of next season though, and that uncertainty could push Lacroix towards the exit.

The potential to reunite with his current defensive partner at Liverpool could also be something that tops the balance in the Reds’ favour with Lacroix if they were to secure Guehi’s signature.

Lacroix certainly represents an interesting option for Liverpool, although his situation has plenty of moving parts that could alter the way any transfer saga plays out.
