Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande has taken another intriguing turn, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly moving into pole position for one of Europe’s most coveted young attacking talents.
The 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger has emerged as one of the breakout stars of the Bundesliga over the past season, attracting attention from some of the continent’s biggest clubs. According to Footmercarto, PSG have made significant progress in negotiations and Diomande has verbally agreed to join the French champions, provided an agreement can be reached with Leipzig over a transfer fee.
For Liverpool, it presents a familiar challenge in the modern transfer market. Identifying elite young talent is one thing. Convincing that talent to choose Merseyside over rival European heavyweights is another.

Few young players have seen their reputation rise as quickly as Diomande’s over the past 12 months.
After joining Leipzig from CD Leganés last year, the Ivory Coast international adapted seamlessly to Bundesliga football. His numbers alone tell a compelling story. Twelve goals and nine assists in 33 appearances underline his growing influence, but statistics only reveal part of the picture.
Diomande’s pace, direct running and composure in the final third have marked him out as a player capable of thriving at the highest level. Defenders struggle to contain him in one-on-one situations, while his decision-making has improved significantly during his time at Leipzig.
It is no surprise that Liverpool, PSG and even Bayern Munich have all monitored his development closely.
For Leipzig, the emergence of Diomande represents another success story in their model of identifying and developing elite young talent. It also means they are under little pressure to sell.
One reason Liverpool supporters have followed this story so closely is Diomande’s previous admiration for the club.
Earlier this year, the winger spoke openly about his affection for Liverpool and the significance of Anfield in his family.
He said: “I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool because my father’s dream is to see me play at Anfield. So that’s my dream. You know, to fulfil my father’s dream is a dream for me too.”
Those comments inevitably generated excitement among Liverpool supporters, although Diomande later clarified his position.
He explained: “People made it out to be my dream club. But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club. It was always his great wish to see me play there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield.
“He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”
Those remarks demonstrated both maturity and professionalism, qualities that will only enhance his appeal to potential suitors.
Fresh from Champions League success, PSG are determined to strengthen further and view Diomande as an important addition to their evolving squad.
Reports suggest the French side see him as a long-term solution on the right flank, particularly amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Lee Kang-in. Their recruitment strategy under Luis Enrique has increasingly focused on young, dynamic players with significant development potential, making Diomande a natural target.
The indication that Diomande has verbally agreed to the move is a significant development. However, a verbal agreement alone does not complete a transfer.
Leipzig remain in a strong position and will demand a substantial fee for one of their most valuable assets.
While Liverpool and PSG continue to compete for Diomande’s signature, Leipzig retain considerable leverage.
The winger remains under contract until 2030, giving the German club little reason to rush negotiations or accept an offer below their valuation. Any interested club will need to meet Leipzig’s demands if they are serious about completing a deal.
Liverpool’s interest remains genuine and persistent. The club view Diomande as a player capable of becoming a major attacking force in the Premier League, while the player himself is believed to be attracted by the possibility of playing at Anfield.
Yet, as things stand, PSG appear to have seized the initiative.
The coming weeks will determine whether Liverpool can alter the direction of the race or whether Diomande’s next destination will be Paris. What is certain is that one of Europe’s most exciting young talents is approaching a defining moment in his career, and both Liverpool and Leipzig remain central figures in a transfer saga that is gathering momentum.
