Liverpool are set to complete a deal for a key addition to Arne Slot's backroom staff.

The Dutchman has brought in plenty of his former colleagues from his Feyenoord days, including his assistant Sipke Hulshoff and the Reds' lead physical performance coach Ruben Peeters.

It's clear that Slot wants personnel in charge who he can trust and already has a working relationship. This is not an unusual practise. Jurgen Klopp also brought in his own staff when he first took over at the club.

And now it seems as though Slot is on the brink of adding another key staff member from Feyenoord to the Anfield bootroom.

Liverpool’s youth development has always been a point of pride for the club and there is clearly fresh impetus in this from Michael Edwards, Arne Slot and new sporting director Richard Hughes.

With Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah becoming mainstays of the first-team squad, the dial has shifted towards Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni as the next in line.

Morton experienced a Champions League matchday with the first team recently, when Liverpool travelled to Milan, whilst Nyoni got the chance to do the same recently for the home game against Bologna.

One of the biggest youth stories of the season so far is new signing Rio Ngumoha. The 16-year-old joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s youth squad over the summer, in a move that was seen as a statement of intent from Hughes.

Liverpool have been handed a major new update when it comes to Alexis Mac Allister's fitness.

The midfielder has been a crucial part in Liverpool's success so far this season. Mac Allister has dominated the centre of the pitch, winning duels and allowing Slot's new system to be implemented perfectly.

However, the Argentinian has already played 12 games for club and country and with a jam-packed schedule coming up, his fitness has been a major concern.

Mac Allister was withdrawn at half-time during Liverpool's last league game against Crystal Palace and injury fear followed, with him facing a ‘muscle overload’ going into the last international break.

Arne Slot has been dealt another blow as he prepares for Liverpool's return to Premier League action this weekend.

The head coach already had a potential problem in midfield, after Alexis Mac Allister was forced off in the recent 1-0 win at Crystal Palace and then missed Argentina's first match of the international break.

But now that concern has been compounded by the news that Wataru Endo is not in Japan's matchday squad for their game against Australia today.

It had been reported that the Reds midfielder could miss the World Cup qualifier in Saitama due to injury and that fear has now been realised.

Slot handed huge dilemma

Head coach Arne Slot has been given a headache after a Liverpool youngster impressed on the international stage.

Liverpool came under fire this summer for sending out a plethora of young talent to allow them to get game time, despite only one addition to the first-team squad. However, it seems to have worked out in the club's favour so far.

One youngster, who was already making a name for himself at club level, is now showcasing his exceptional talent playing for his country.

Ben Doak was described as a "standout' performer by former Scotland defender Willie Miller, despite the national side losing 2-1 to Croatia. It is the first time the 18-year-old started for Steve Clarke's side in only his second appearance.

Life under new head coach Arne Slot has been anything but plain sailing for Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan is now into his third season on Merseyside and has yet to live up to his £85m price tag. While he has had moments of brilliance over recent seasons, his form has been incredibly inconsistent.

If the Liverpool striker wants to remain at Anfield, he will have to dig deep and locate the talent he has displayed in the past for Benfica and more recently at international level.

Especially as now Liverpool have begun to have daily meetings with the Uruguayan according to the latest reports in order to solve a key issue he has at the club.
