Liverpool last week were reported to be considering contract renewals for two major stars.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch both joined the club back in 2023 as part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield revolution. They signed five-year deals - due to expire in 2028 - and the pair have grown in importance over the course of the last 12 months.

Integral to the Premier League title win in the 2024/25 season under Arne Slot, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch are now among the first names on the teamsheet.

And their growing prominence at the club is bound to be reflected in their next contracts - which are expected to take them into the band of the Reds’ top earners.

Gravenberch in demand

But in the meantime Liverpool could be vulnerable to rival offers from elsewhere. Szoboszlai for example is a target for Real Madrid AND Manchester City.

Madrid have reportedly had their eyes on Gravenberch for quite a while - but Clasico rivals Barcelona are also now emerging onto the scene. Let’s clear it up straight away.

Barcelona’s finances right now would not permit a big bid - plus wages for Gravenberch.

Gravenberch a "priority" for Barcelona

But if the Blaugrana can shift out some of their top earners - with Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo among those linked with the exit then a deal could become viable for sporting director Deco.

“Barcelona are monitoring the Dutchman and have identified him as a priority for the upcoming summer transfer window,” a report in Fichajes claims.

There are no indications right now that Gravenberch’s future at the club is under any threat. He has come on leaps and bounds since moving from Bayern Munich a couple of years ago - becoming a fixture at No6 rather than an attacking midfielder.

Hopefully Liverpool can come to a swift agreement over a new deal - because Barcelona’s interest is the first warning that he is sure to be a player in demand.
