Recent reports from the Spanish outlet Fichajes suggest Liverpool are seriously looking at Real Madrid’s Arda Guler. The club are gearing up for a major rebuild this summer. The Reds are tracking the Turkish international right now. They want to bring in fresh blood for their attack once this season ends.
The rumours get even more interesting. Apparently, the Anfield hierarchy sees Xabi Alonso as the top choice to take over as manager. The former midfielder reportedly wants Guler to be signed as part of his new project. At just 20 years old, Guler has the technical skill to make it in the Premier League. He is incredibly versatile, too. He can play at a high level as a number 10 or out on the wing.
Liverpool know the youngster would bring goals and a creative spark to their front line. However, the price tag is a massive hurdle for a player still finding his rhythm in Spain. Real Madrid supposedly value the player at a staggering €90 million. This puts the English club in a tough spot. They have to decide if such a huge investment is worth it compared to what the rest of the squad needs.

Any top European side would love to have Arda Guler. But as of late February 2026, Liverpool are at a crossroads. They need to pick practical fixes over exciting signings. The Reds are currently sixth in the Premier League and far behind the leaders. They are struggling with a defensive crisis. Their backline has looked wide open all winter.
Guler has been great for Turkey on the international stage. He has also recorded three goals and twelve assists this season. Even so, he might be a luxury the team cannot afford right now. The squad is thin at centre-back and in the holding midfield role.
Spending €90 million on another playmaker does not make much sense. The team already use Florian Wirtz and Alexis Mac Allister to run things in the final third. Liverpool should focus on finding a dominant centre-back and a physical midfielder. They need someone to protect the defence before they spend big on a luxury player. If they ignore these gaps to chase a big name, they might just make the team even more unbalanced.
