Liverpool’s attacking overhaul is continuing apace. Having added Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, plans are in place to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 23-year-old’s acquisition will push Liverpool’s transfer spend in this window to over £250m - and if reports are to be believed there is more to come.
It’s no secret that the Reds covet Rodrygo of Real Madrid - while a back-up striker to Ekitike could also be sourced. Jean-Philippe Mateta has been mentioned - as has Ollie Watkins.
In order to get these deals over the line however, sporting director Richard Hughes needs to complete more outgoing deals.
Darwin Nunez is the chief candidate to leave - with clubs in Saudi Arabia preparing to meet the Reds’ £70m asking price. Luis Diaz too could be on his way if the right bid is made.
Bayern Munich and Al-Nassr are the teams in focus for the Colombian, who is out of contract in 2027. Liverpool don’t appear willing to meet Diaz’s demands for a renewal and value the player at around €100m.
And if he goes, it would leave a gap in the squad.
Liverpool used Cody Gakpo wide left last season and could opt to field Wirtz there next term. And while the opportunity exists to sign a new left-winger, one report claims Diaz’s Liverpool replacement has ALREADY been signed.
Rio Ngumoha, 16, was signed from Chelsea’s academy last summer in a transfer that made shockwaves. The England youth is widely regarded as the country’s most exciting talent in his age group and has even made his first-team debut.
Ngumoha made his bow against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup in January before picking up another senior appearance last week in the pre-season friendly against Preston.
He is set for a new pro deal once he turns 17 next month and according to TBR Football he is ready to fill in where required on the left wing next season despite his tender age.

“If both Nunez and Diaz leave, Liverpool are expected to sign a left winger and a centre forward to fill those gaps,” a report reads.
“But separately, there’s talk about Rio Ngumoha, a 16-year-old who could be involved with the first team next season.
“If Ngumoha gets opportunities on the left alongside players like Cody Gakpo, it raises the question of how urgent the need really is for another left-sided signing.
“But from what I’m hearing, Liverpool still want to bring someone in for that position.”
