Reds hoping to welcome back absentees for Premier League finale
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have been held back by injuries throughout this campaign, and they have picked up two new headaches ahead of the final match of their Premier League campaign.
Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong were both added to the list of absentees as they failed to travel for Friday night’s 4-2 defeat by Aston Villa.
That loss means Liverpool must wait until the final matchday of the season to confirm their place in next season’s Champions League, and Slot will hope to have some fresh faces back fit as they host Brentford.
With that said, here is all the latest Liverpool injury news...
Alexander Isak has endured an injury-hit first season with Liverpool which has not improved much since he recovered from a broken leg.
He was a surprise absentee from the team-sheet to face Aston Villa, and Slot later explained he missed out with a minor issue.
Reports state the club are not willing to risk him after such a difficult campaign.
Slot said of Isak ahead of the Villa match: “Alex is out – minor injury.
Asked at full-time whether Isak could be fit to face Brentford, Slot expanded: “Yes, there will definitely be a chance. He missed pre-season as we all know and then he broke his leg. We've tried to be as careful as we could with him, taking into account that our other No9 Hugo Ekitike is out for such a long time, so we needed him as a result of that even more.
“We've tried to be as careful as we could, but I don't think it can come to anyone as a surprise if you miss your pre-season, if you then break your leg, that minor injuries can occur if you have to start in Premier League games immediately in that intensity.
“It's just a bit of bad luck for him that in the moment of time when he comes back, Hugo gets injured and we need him more. I expect him to train with us this week, but I cannot give any guarantees.”
He has been called up to Graham Potter’s Sweden squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Full-back Jeremie Frimpong has also struggled to stay fit this season as he deals with a rash of hamstring problems, and he joined Isak in missing the Villa match.
Reports state he also missed out with a minor injury and could be in contention to return to the pitch for Liverpool’s final match of the season, against Brentford at home.
Alisson has been absent for some time with a hamstring injury, but Slot is insistent he can feature again this season.
The Brazilian shot-stopper is back in first-team training and it had been hoped he could return in time to face Aston Villa, but did not make the matchday squad.
Slot said last week: “Alisson, trained with us, let's see where he is.”
Giorgi Mamardashvili has performed reasonably well in his absence, but Alisson will hope to return to the pitch before the season’s end.

Hugo Ekitike has in the midst of an impressive debut campaign on Merseyside, but suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while facing Paris Saint-Germain.
He has since undergone surgery and, unsurprisingly, was not called up to France’s World Cup squad.
Arne Slot said: “The surgery went well. That's the first important step that he had to make. But I think in such a long rehab process there are so many crucial steps to be made before you can actually say it's going to take that amount of months or that amount of months. It's going to take a long time.”
Potential return date: Autumn/Winter 2026
Wataru Endo seemed to have ended his season early when he suffered a serious ankle injury in February and was stretchered off.
He seems to be closing in on an earlier-than-anticipated comeback, though, having returned to training in recent weeks.
He was not named in the squad to face Aston Villa on Friday, but has been called up to Japan’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
It remains to be seen whether he will feature again at club level this season.

Conor Bradley compounded Liverpool’s defensive availability woes in January when he suffered a serious knee injury.
He did not rupture his ACL but did still require surgery which ended his season prematurely.
Asked for an update earlier this month, Slot said of Bradley: “In the rehab it's always important if some steps go well. It's really difficult in the stage he's in now to predict when he will be back.
“He's still inside and working really hard but he is quite far away from going outside, that makes it quite cimplicated to tell.”
Potential return date: August 2026
Giovanni Leoni’s burgeoning Liverpool career was cut short when he suffered a ruptured ACL on debut.
He has since undergone surgery and is not expected to return until the new season.
Arne Slot recently provided an update on Leoni’s recovery, saying: “If you look at Giovanni Leoni — I don’t know if you sometimes see Instagram posts from the club — this guy is becoming a beast.”
Potential return date: August 2026
