Liverpool’s preparations for their Champions League clash with Galatasaray have been shaped by one notable absence. According to the Echo, Federico Chiesa did not take part in Monday morning’s open training session as Arne Slot’s squad stepped up preparations at the AXA Training Centre.

The Italian forward’s absence will naturally prompt questions ahead of a demanding European away trip. Liverpool’s head coach is expected to provide further clarity when he addresses the media in Istanbul later on Monday.
Federico Chiesa missed Monday morning’s open training session as Liverpool stepped up preparations for Tuesday night’s Champions League visit to Galatasaray.
Chiesa’s situation has drawn attention given his recent involvement with the team. The former Juventus forward appeared as a late substitute in last Tuesday’s Premier League defeat at Wolves, a 2-1 result that frustrated Liverpool supporters.
He was then left on the bench during Friday night’s FA Cup victory against the same opponents, which has added intrigue to his absence from training.

Liverpool’s medical and coaching staff will likely assess the situation carefully before deciding whether the winger travels or remains in England.
Despite Chiesa’s absence, the majority of Arne Slot’s squad took part in a light training session at the £50m Kirkby facility.
Florian Wirtz was among those involved after making his return to action during the FA Cup victory at Molineux. The Germany international had been sidelined with a back issue and is now building towards his first start since February 14.

Ryan Gravenberch also returned to training following the announcement of his new contract over the weekend.
Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones were all present as Liverpool continued preparations for the European fixture.
Several academy prospects were included in the session, highlighting the depth within Liverpool’s squad.
Academy midfielder Afalomi Onanuga featured alongside senior players as the group completed the session. Rio Ngumoha also trained with the first team and remains in contention for a starting role in Istanbul following his impressive display against Wolves.
Trey Nyoni was another absentee after featuring for the Under 21 side in their 5-0 victory over Wolves on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah trained as usual and could reach another milestone if selected in the Champions League clash. His appearance would make him Liverpool’s all time record holder for appearances in the competition.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate were also involved alongside Jeremie Frimpong and left backs Andy Robertson and Milos Kerkez.
With the trip to Galatasaray looming, Liverpool’s squad appears largely intact. However, Chiesa’s absence remains the one issue supporters will watch closely.
Federico Chiesa’s absence from training immediately raises concern.
The Italian forward arrived with high expectations. Fans know his quality from his time at Juventus and from international tournaments with Italy. When fully fit he offers pace, direct running and the ability to change matches.
Supporters also recognise that this season has been physically demanding. Liverpool are competing on multiple fronts, which means squad rotation and careful player management are essential.
Chiesa’s situation may therefore prove precautionary rather than serious. If that is the case, fans will hope he can still contribute during the crucial weeks ahead.
There is also encouragement in other areas of the squad. Florian Wirtz returning from injury strengthens Liverpool’s attacking options significantly. His creativity adds a different dimension to the team’s play.
Young players featuring in training will also excite supporters. Liverpool fans always take pride in academy involvement, and seeing names like Afalomi Onanuga and Rio Ngumoha around the first team reinforces the club’s commitment to youth development.
Ultimately the focus will shift quickly to the match in Istanbul. Galatasaray away is rarely comfortable for visiting sides, and Liverpool will require composure and quality.
If Chiesa is available, he could still have an important role to play in what promises to be a challenging European night.
