Liverpool must tackle life after Mohamed Salah sooner than expected, despite the 33-year-old signing a two-year deal last April. Replacing a record-breaking 255-goal, 119-assist icon is a different challenge.
According to NY Times, the successor must consistently beat defenders one-v-one, bring pace, press aggressively, show versatility and be 25 or under.
Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz are bedding in to supply goals and creativity. Arne Slot’s precarious position and tactics will also shape recruitment.
Liverpool started with only two senior wingers Slot trusted, and it backfired. Rio Ngumoha will grow next season, but Salah’s exit would likely mean two signings, budgets dependent on league finish and Champions League.
Michael Olise, Bayern Munich, looks ideal yet unlikely in his second season. A left-footed right winger, he has 17 assists and averages a goal involvement per game since 2024.
Yan Diomande, RB Leipzig, 19, is a prolific dribbler on either flank. His 36.3km/hour speed and 10 goals with six assists highlight raw, high upside.
Rayan, Bournemouth, moved after 14 goals in 2025 with Vasco. A powerful 6ft 2in left-footer from the right, but a €100m clause looms.
Malick Fofana, Lyon, joined from Gent in 2024 for €17m, now back from ankle surgery. He posted 11 goals and six assists last season, excels one-v-one, likely cheaper.
Yankuba Minteh, Brighton, worked with Slot at Feyenoord and cost £30m from Newcastle. Electric and versatile, he must improve output, yet leads under-21 goal involvements over two seasons.
